Michelle Home Scholar Disclaimers

2026 Reading Plan
I donโ€™t usually get to hang out with our rat snakes like this. Usually Iโ€™m chiding them gently while removing them from nesting boxes at night before I close up the coop. But this guy greeted me at the gate and then gave me a photoshoot. Since he didnโ€™t need to be removed I didnโ€™t touch or interact beyond chatting and filming. But he was heading in the general direction of the coop so I may end up seeing him again later tonight. ๐Ÿ˜„ #texas #texasratsnake #westernratsnake There were large groups of birds flying near Lake Somerville today. I think they were snow geese. This was one of three or four large groups I saw. These were little high up so the white flashing that occurs during their murmuration-like flight behavior wasnโ€™t too evident in this video. Edited to add - someone corrected me and said these were likely white pelicans. I think they look similar when they fly in groups so I appreciate the correction. #lakesomerville #texas #texasbirds #birdwatching Iโ€™ve got a woodpecker who has been visiting this particular branch for years. I canโ€™t tell but I think they are either a Downy or a Hairy Woodpecker. #birdwatching #texas #texaswoodpecker I ordered the Lochby Mini Journal - lots of pockets, holds four notebooks - Field Notes sized (3.5 x 5.5 in). It also came with a dot journal (Tomoe River paper!). ๐Ÿคฉ #stationary #fieldnotes #lochby First snake of the season! #texasratsnake #texas The Spring 2026 Field Notes honors the recently retired US Penny. I love the ledger format - but need some suggestions on what to use it for, as I donโ€™t balance checkbooks or track spending. #2026fieldnotes I was pleasantly surprised to see Jim Mattis and Ryan Holiday on Firing Line with Margaret Hoover on PBS. Stoic philosophy as lived experience. Biographies-autobiographies are one genre I donโ€™t spend enough time on, so I immediately ordered his Call Sign Chaos. #stoicism On Reading Canon - what it means and why it isn't enough #thegreatconversation #personalscholarship Fun fact - an adult pileated woodpecker can drop an average sized tree in a week. Iโ€™ve seen them debark cedars but never bore holes of this size! #birdsoftexas #backyardbirds
