In Common – January 2024

I mentioned in an earlier post that I have not put together a detailed reading plan for a couple of years, and that I was excited and motivated for my 2024 reading goals.

I finished all my scheduled January books!

I’ve updated my Reading Plan 2024 post – click here if you want to see what I am reading this year. I’ve noted all titles that I complete in the month of January.

I’ve also updated my Goodreads account with all of my current reads. I’ve also set my 2024 Reading Challenge for 60 books. I’d love if you followed me over there – I love to see what everyone is reading, and always cheer on others to meet their reading goals.

One thing I have committed to doing is listening to one book a month on Audible. When I am in the car I alternate between podcasts and a nonfiction Audible selection. This past month I have been enjoying Michael Pollan’s Cooked. I’ve listened to several of his books over the years – he usually narrates them himself – and always enjoy the content and the amount of research that he puts into each topic he is writing about. I think the fact that he narrates his own books makes me actually prefer to listen to his books on Audible. It’s just always an enjoyable experience.

Most of my selected titles are scheduled to be read over the course of one month. However, I decided to add a book to my schedule this year that is so dense that I want to read it slowly over the course of several months. The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling by John Muir Laws is FABULOUS. In depth instructions and suggestions for starting out nature journaling – not just the illustration aspect, but note taking, observations, citizen science, etc. It’s an incredible book – I have committed to four pages per day and expect to finish by the summer.
